..............THE PERSECUTOR..............
Jerusalem The Martyrdom Of Stephen
"Men will seize you and persecute you"(Lk 21:12).
This is what happend to Stephen accused of having blasphemed against Moses and against God, against the temple and against the Torah.
The same false accusations had been made against Jesus , but no one could resist the words of truth spoken by Stephen by the power of the Spirit..
Those who accused Stephen had no option but to react violently by stoning him to death as a heretic.
The young Saul gathered the clothes of the murders , as if he were inheriting them.
He was not aware that one day he would receive an inheritance from the one who was being martyred.
He would give his final witness of faithfulness to his Lord outside the walls of the capital city of the Roman Empire.
...............CHOSEN BY GOD...............
Damascus The Call Of Saul
Jesus persecutor is chosen by Him, He strikes Saul along the way.
The call of the ancient prophets(cf. Is 49:1, Jer 1:15) is repeated in the case of Paul. Jesus calls Saul by name and chooses him out of pure grace .
It was a moment of an intimate and striking acquaintan ce, of an eternal.
Presence to announce to the entire world.
From that moment on, the servant of Gospel freedom was bound by the brightness of the crucified and Risen One.
A new life began for Saul, the Pharisee.
Thanks to the mediation of the Christian community of Damascus, Paul became disciple of Him whom he had previously persecuted.
From the community of Damascus Paul heard stories about Jesus of Nazareth, in the community of Antioch Paul was to find, with Barnabas, the drive for his mission among the nations.
